🌟Local Kiddo

Your weekend plans, handled.

📆Issue No. 2 - February 2, 2025

Like that parent running for the N-Judah, we're a bit late this week. But we've got good news: starting next week, you'll get your weekend intel every Thursday morning.

Welcome to your weekly guide to kid-friendly San Francisco activities that parents actually enjoy too. Here’s the plan:

🎯The Main Event

The Asian Art Museum's first free Sunday hits the sweet spot this month, combining LionDanceMe's return performance with family programming that engages all ages.

Worth Knowing:

  • $: Completely free (first Sunday of every month)

  • Story time happens in a quieter space

  • Performance area fills fast

  • Art Terrace has Asian Box for purchase

Pro move: Make it a full afternoon. Start with the family story time at 1pm, tour the gallery, then grab seats early for the lion dance.

🚌 Getting There: Bart/Muni to Civic Center, 5-Fulton, 6-Haight/Parnassus, and 7-Haight/Noriega

🎨Cultural Queue

James and the Giant Peach presented by the Children's Theatre Association of San Francisco lands at Presidio Theatre, and they've managed to capture Roald Dahl's weird-but-wonderful vibe perfectly.

Worth Knowing:

  • Sunday, February 2

  • Runtime: 2:00pm-3:00pm

  • $15-$20

  • Get last minute tickets here.

Future shows:

  • Feb 8 (Sat)

  • Feb 22 & 23 (Sat/Sun)

  • March 1 (Sat)

🚌 Getting There: PresidiGo: Free shuttle from Embarcadero BART and Transbay Terminal, 1-California (to Presidio gate), 29-Sunset, 30-Stockton and 45-Union/Stockton

🌙After Hours (Adult Only)

When you finally secure that sitter:

Cal Academy NightLife: Black Thursday

Cal Academy kicks off Black History Month with their second annual celebration, transforming the museum into the city's most unique night out. Think energetic dance performances, live music that'll move you, and a marketplace featuring 20+ local businesses you'll want to know about.

Thursday, February 6, 6-10pm

  • Live performances throughout the night

  • Pop-up marketplace supporting local creators

  • Craft cocktails and food from Tastebuds, a local family-owned business

  • Special exhibitions and music

  • $25 advance tickets worth grabbing
